The US Postal Service announced in September that it still adds about 2 million addresses each year.  However, the volume of mail dropped by 9 billion pieces for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2008.

In this economy there is a silver lining to reach more customers and it’s by using direct mail!  Sending your direct mail offer has a better chance of being seen by more people because they receive less stuff each day in their home or business mail box.

More eyes see direct mail offers than email!!

I know using email is CHEAP but you can’t depend on just email blasts.  Think about the number of emails you get each day.  Some email is in the junk folder or you delete right away.

You hold on to other emails in the Inbox or a sub-folder that you promise yourself to get back too.  Most of us after a while realize that we have too much stuff in our inbox so we start to delete old emails.  More than likely your offer gets deleted.

Using direct mail to send your offer may not be opened on day of arrival but usually before it is thrown away it get’s opened.  You have a higher rate of people seeing your offer with direct mail.

Your investment in a direct mail piece including postage can be as little as $0.55 to $0.75 each.  Send out 1,000 pieces of mail and if your product or service grabs a bunch of BIG DEALS then you are making up for the cost of the mailing and more!!

It’s also a good way for you to stay in front of prospects and customers without having to get through the email noise out there.  But don’t give up on email.

You should use a mix of media when marketing to prospects and existing customers.  You should be using direct mail, email, fax, and voice mail to get your message or offer out.
